Destinations where it matters
- Bali / Indonesia: visa on arrival and e-VOA expect a return or onward ticket.
- New Zealand: visitors need an onward ticket to a country they can enter.
- Fiji: visitors need a return or onward ticket and funds.
What to show
A confirmed flight out of your destination within your permitted stay. For New Zealand, the onward country must be one you can enter.
Tip
If you're traveling on a one-way fare, sort your onward reservation before you leave home - or in minutes from the airport.
Bali from Australia
Bali is Jetstar's busiest international leisure market, and many Australians fly up one-way for longer stays. The visa on arrival or e-VOA expects a ticket out of Indonesia, so a one-way passenger without a return may be asked at the Australian check-in desk. A flight from Denpasar to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur is the usual onward choice.
New Zealand and the Tasman
Trans-Tasman flights are often booked one-way. New Zealand's rule is specific: your onward ticket must take you to a country you can enter. Australians and New Zealanders traveling between their own countries are treated differently from other passport holders - the onward rule is aimed at visitors.
Online check-in
When your destination has document requirements, online check-in may not complete and you may be directed to a counter. Leave enough time, and keep your reservation offline in case the terminal Wi-Fi is slow.

Frequently asked questions
Can my onward flight from New Zealand go to Australia?
Only if you can enter Australia, for example with a valid ETA or visa.
I am an Australian citizen flying one-way to Bali. Will I be asked?
You may be. The visa on arrival expects a ticket out of Indonesia, and airlines check entry rules before you board.
Does the onward flight have to be with Jetstar?
No. Any confirmed flight leaving your destination country within your permitted stay works.
